Could Christpreneurship Be the Next Move of God?
“I believe that one of the next great moves of God is going to be through believers in the marketplace.”–Billy Graham
When Luke Burgis decided to start a company with all the profits going to charity people thought he was nuts! He couldn’t find investors, supporters, was just coming through bankruptcy, and “did not have a penny in the bank.” But he prayed, found clarity in the peace of God, persevered, and grew ActivPrayer into a healthy organization with “tons of committed members and partners.”
But Luke is not the only one who’s been “lead” down this road of entrepreneurship. And for now, it doesn’t seem like he’ll be the last.
So the question: is THIS the next move of God?
I don’t know.
But there are so many indicators that are pointing to a “yes” answer:
- The recent rise of Christ-preneurs
- Entrepreneurs starting businesses because God told them to
- The fact that Gen Y might be the most entrepreneurial generation EVER
- There’s a new reality of business: a reality where shared values, mission, and a greater purpose reign
- The fact that businesses are being use to fund ministry endeavors
- The rise of faith based mission trips: where Christ-preneurs are sent into impoverished areas to teach business skills to other entrepreneurs
The Bible says,
“A good man leaves an inheritance [of moral stability and goodness] to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner [finds its way eventually] into the hands of the righteous, for whom it was laid up.” (Proverbs 13:22 AMP)
Could we be seeing a “transfer” of some sorts?
I don’t have the answer, but I would love to hear your answers. What do you think? Is this a move of God? Or just a trend?
Your thoughts…

How exactly is THIS a move of God??!!
What?? Are you nuts??
"For the love of money is the root of all evil."
"Store not up for yourselves treasures…"
How exactly could that be a move of God. We so need to go back to fundamental theology in the church!
Same thing I'm wondering myself!
You know what Mike…I believe it is…and I do some give some great points. Unemployment is at a high, the trust of big business is at an all time low, business has shifted into a new reality, "purpose" is more the catchphrase these days, and etc.
And regardless of what some people might think…the indicators appear to be going that way. I do thank you fro bringing this to the light in this way
Well said Thomas!
Mike,
I've been a fan of your blog for a while now…a silent fan
But I must say that this post has really been an eye-opener. I do know that with every move of God there were always people who thought it was not a move of God (i.e. the previous comments). But I'm of the belief that this might in fact be a mighty move of God.
Like Thomas, I thank you for bringing it to light.
Be blessed!
What exactly did he say that was so unbiblical?? He didn't say Christians should store up wealth. In fact, if you read his previous posts you would see that he's warned against wealth becoming an idol.
So it seems like you're just talking to talk. That's alright…it is your right. Nothing's wrong with having zeal…but do have it according to knowledge.
Be blessed!
Great job again Mike!
I wouldn't really call it a move of God. Instead I'd call it an awakening of His people. It isn't like God suddenly woke up one morning and decided He wanted to move in the marketplace. He's always wanted that. Instead I think we are seeing a new generation of people who (1) understand God's heart for the marketplace and (2) are being forced into entrepreneurship out of necessity.
Meanwhile, the cost and complexity of launching a business has significantly decreased. Anyone can quickly and launch a business and gain traction without significant startup costs. Necessity is a good thing; our nation has not chosen weakness and now we are being forced to our knees as a result. From that shaking out people with a heart for God will find opportunities to innovate that they may not have otherwise noticed before.

Thanks for the vote of confidence George! I really do appreciate it!
Thanks Thomas! It's really been something that I've been seeing but I didn't have enough evidence, stats, data to back up my claim. I only wish I had some sort of prophetic insight so I could see 40-50yrs down the road to see how this pans out. But who cares?? In the end God wins anyway…that's all that matters!
Silent fan eh?? Well I'm glad you said something so now I can acknowledge you. Don't be a silent one anymore lol!
Wow! i love your site! I am sooo bookmarking it!
When I say "move of God" I do mean "an awakening of His" people–you tomatoes I say ta–mah-toes
I do believe that this hardship is birthing a new entrepreneur and I 'm glad to be witness to this awakening.
Mike –
Thanks for the post!
I think that a lot of entrepreneurs are the type of people who by nature conceive a great idea and say "my will be done!" (and not always "God's will be done"). But they put together the resources and plan to make it happen. They are generally courageous, daring people with incredible skills and talents.
So imagine if those same people used those skills and talents not to build their own kingdom but to build the Kingdom of God? That's an exciting idea! I think that those types of entrepreneurs are all over the place. It simply takes someone who is willing to take an idea that could've been built into a million dollar company and instead convert it into an idea that could touch a million souls.
Well…I'm glad that's what you're doing Luke!
And I know God is glad! But do you (gleaning your opinion) think its possible to do both? Build a million dollar business and at the same time touch a million souls? Would love to hear…
I think it is moving people, those that wish it, into their kingship. Not to say that those that work in a huge corporation can't move into it, but an entrepreneur has the ability to really create and determine how the proceeds will be used.
Not necessarily related to this is the idea that this entrepreneurship is in line with multiplying and being fruitful, instead of consolidating as is the mantra of the big businesses.
And note that it is not money that is the root of evil, but the LOVE of money that is the root of evil. We shouldn't make money the idol in our lives, but money makes an awesome servant. We can have money and still love God with all our heart because we are sold out to him. Just had to say it
You better say it! Personally I believe in me serving God, money serving me, so that I can better serve God!
I love your insight Mak! You know I'm gonna take some of it and use it as my own right? People are gonna say: "Man Mike is insightful! I didn't know he had all this in him!" lol
I love it when you stop by!
Entrepreneurship=being fruitful and mutiplying. I am sooooo using this LOL!
Ryan I agree with George 100 percent. I saw nothing unbiblical in any of Michael's posts.
Having money does not mean you are in love with it. True Christian believes know that money is only a resource. Ryan I think your thoughts have held a lot of Christian back from the full riches God wants to give us and I don't mean just money. Michael your on the right page. Thank you for the post
Good points Dan!
Very good points!
Thank you Dan I appreciate it. And I'm with you: money is a resource. My Source is from God…but I will use all resources to glorify Him!
I like your page. I was looking for Billy Graham's quote and found your page.
Thanks Jay. We're glad to have you
