Why Doing What God Says Really Sucks at Times

by Michael · 5 comments

I know you’re not supposed to say stuff like that…but I’ll say it. HE doesn’t suck!! Quite the contrary, He’s awesome! But there are time when He will tell you to do stuff, you expect one thing, and get another. That’s when it sucks.

I use the illustration of God being a manager:

If the idea works He gets all praise. If it DOESN’T you look like an idiot!

For instance: God gave me the idea for this Christ in Business Conference  …and it has been A LOT of work. I mean, “I wish I had 4 other people with laptops to do some of this crazy work” kind of work. I never realized how much went into doing something like this. And I will admit: that the God who gave me the idea has been helping me. But I guess this is me being frustrated that I didn’t get what I expected.

Come on!! Be honest! Have you ever felt like God never came through when you needed Him to? Don’t worry…I wont tell!

I promise.

But…that was just me letting out a sigh. Frustrated that all my expectations were not met (yet!), but thankful to the God who can meet them!

But anyhoo…the show is still going on. We just had a fantastic talk with David Tonen. His talk: How Stories Can Change the World. He was on point with it to. Stories are one of the main ways Jesus built His startup.

But tell me what you think?

Yeah, I’ve felt like God has given me tasks too big at times, then I remember, He doesn’t expect me to do it with my strength but His!
Duh!!!

It’s all about relying on God’s strength and not our own. Easy to know but hard at times to apply into our life.

So before anyone takes offense, I’m not trying to “quench the Spirit.” Instead I’m encouraging a bit of caution when talking this way among publishing professionals.
